IS TELEHEALTH JUST AS EFFECTIVE AS IN-PERSON THERAPY?

Research has consistently shown that online therapy "Telehealth", can be just as effective as in-person therapy. The American Psychological Association (APA) conducted a study which found that "telehealth is not only clinically effective but also preferred by many patients" and "telehealth can be as effective as in-person therapy."

Another study by the National Library of Medicine "Results suggest telehealth as a viable care alternative with no significant differences between in-person and telehealth groups in depressive symptom reduction, and significant increases in self-reported quality of life across both groups."

PREPARING FOR ONLINE SESSIONS

    • A strong internet connection is the most important factor in having a clear and uninterrupted online therapy session. 

     

    • Reset your modem by unplugging the power cord, waiting one minute, then reconnecting to power. 

     

    • Turn off any other devices that are connected to the internet (phones, tablets, etc.), or temporarily disable their network connection. Ask that others who share your internet connection log-off while you are in session. 

     

    • Close all other online windows on your computer, and discontinue any downloads that may be in progress.

     

    • Choose a location for the session that is close to your internet modem and router.

    • Set up your computer or tablet in a private location where distractions are as limited as possible and you cannot be overheard or interrupted.

    • Lighting is most effective when aimed toward the front of you. Something to avoid if possible is sitting with a window or other source of bright light behind you.

    • This can improve overall sound quality, and prevent an echo and/or feedback, and help

    • Ensure your camera is eye-level and that your face is fully visible on the screen.
