Her passion for counseling grew out of years spent walking alongside people in their hardest seasons, seeing firsthand the power of empathy and hope. Out of that calling, she created Empower Counseling: a space built on trust, understanding, and the belief that real change is possible for everyone who walks through its doors.

APRIL THORNDYKE, FOUNDER OF EMPOWER COUNSELING
Hi, I’m April. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, but more than that, I’m someone who deeply cares about creating a space where you can feel safe, seen, and understood. Whether you’re in Idaho or Georgia, my hope is that you feel comfortable enough here to let your guard down and just be yourself. I believe therapy works best when it feels like a conversation, not a checklist, and my heart is to meet you right where you are—with compassion, curiosity, and care.
Life has a way of throwing us curveballs—some that leave us feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure where to turn. Reaching out for help can feel intimidating, and I get that. You don’t have to walk this road alone. My role is to sit with you in the hard moments, to listen deeply, and to help you see your story in a new light. It’s a privilege to walk with people as they rediscover hope, healing, and their own strength. You deserve that, and I’d be honored to walk beside you.
I have been a client for about three years and April is both companionate and realistic. One of the hallmarks of a great therapist is being supportive but also willing to provide constructive criticism, Empower is a perfect blend of both of those principals.
